Marketing Manager (Part-time) in Walnut Creek, CA

Imagine a world where devices can see and understand the world around them -- from self-driving cars (“Careful, that’s a pedestrian!”) to kitchen appliances (“Your bagel is perfectly toasted!”). The Embedded Vision Alliance is an industry consortium devoted to making that vision a reality. We’re made up of almost 100 member companies, from giants like Intel and Qualcomm to innovative Silicon Valley start-ups you’ve probably never heard of. We run several technology conferences and trade shows each year, plus trainings and smaller, exclusive events.

We are looking for an experienced, talented, and energetic Marketing Manager to drive our marketing program—both for the Alliance as a whole and for the various events that we run. This is a mix of B2B and B2C marketing: Alliance membership, event exhibits and event sponsorships are B2B, but our events are marketed directly to attendees, so there is B2C in the mix as well. This position will be under the direct supervision of the General Manager.

Our ideal candidate has 5-10 years’ experience devising and implementing marketing programs, either for high-tech companies or for events and conferences targeted at engineers, product developers, and executives working at technology companies. (This is a part-time role. We also have a similar full-time role available.)

Working closely with Alliance leadership, you will:

  • Own the overall Alliance marketing strategy, i.e., how the Alliance should market itself, including:
    • Build the messaging for the Alliance and for our quarterly and yearly events
    • Find the most effective channels to reach potential new Alliance Member companies
    • Drive a go-to-market plan that clearly defines our audience segments and an integrated, multi-touch approach to engage and retain them
    • Develop and formalize our marketing calendar including a drumbeat of marketing activities that engages and nurtures the Alliance community
  • Define and work with staff and consultants to create Alliance marketing content including:
    • Hardcopy and electronic marketing content including brochures, infographics, whitepapers
    • Web presence for our major conferences, trainings and related events
    • Email campaigns
    • Social media (LinkedIn and Twitter/Hootsuite)
    • Internet advertising (Google AdWords and LinkedIn)
  • Drive event-specific marketing for the following events:
    • Embedded Vision Summit in Santa Clara in May
    • Embedded AI Summit in China in December
    • Training classes
    • Periodic meetups in the San Francisco Bay Area
    • Webinars for Alliance member companies

You should have proven experience with most of the following:

  • Good at quickly learning new skills

Smart, logical

  • Structured thinker: able to take a problem and break it up into logical chunks, prioritize those chunks, and present your thinking to others
  • Good at numbers: numbers feel comfortable to you, and it is natural for you to think quantitatively
  • You don’t do things in marketing because “that’s what everybody does”; you do things in marketing because you can show they work and that there’s ROI

Good knowledge of and comfort with computers and productivity software

  • Power user of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and the Google Documents suite
  • Good at learning and adapting to new technology; good with computers and able to quickly master new programs

  • Easy going, friendly and unflappable personality

We realize the above is a tall order and you might not check all the boxes. That’s OK. We are a smart, hard-working, fun group and we’re looking for someone who shares those traits. We’d rather have somebody who has general marketing experience and who is smart, flexible, detail-oriented and quick at learning new things and help them learn more about event marketing, for instance, than hire a person who is an absolute expert at event marketing but is inflexible and needs lots of help to learn how to use a new email marketing application.

This would be a part-time position, with potential for expansion if desired. Ideally you would be working out of our offices in Walnut Creek (a day a week of work-from-home is possible when needed, but mostly we’d expect you to be in the office, along with the rest of our team). That said, we are willing to consider other arrangements for truly outstanding candidates.

Pay commensurate with experience. To apply, please send your resume and a cover letter indicating the three top reasons why you think this is the right job for you to jobs@embedded-vision.com.
