Position Available:
DSP Software Engineer

The Company

BDTI works closely with major players in the semiconductor, intellectual property (IP) licensing, development tools, and electronic systems industries to evaluate and develop a variety of processing engines optimized for signal processing applications. We also develop highly optimized software applications for embedded systems based on these processing engines. Check out the BDTI customer list and you will see many leading-edge companies developing next generation video, audio, multimedia and other DSP-centric technologies where squeezing the maximum performance from a processor is critical.

BDTI uses its proprietary benchmarks to evaluate and compare processors and FPGAs for digital signal processing applications. BDTI's benchmark results and analysis are published in BDTI's highly regarded analysis reports, such as Buyer's Guide to DSP Processors, and are widely used throughout the industry. Increasingly, we also evaluate software, hardware, and system development tools.

The company was founded in 1992 by U.C. Berkeley faculty and researchers.

The Job

We are seeking an entry-level (qualified recent college graduates are welcome to apply) self-starter and team player possessing most of the following skills:

  • Understanding of one or more processors, FPGAs, and/or development tools
  • Strong coding and optimization skills in both C and assembly
  • Familiarity with digital signal processing fundamentals and/or applications
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • An ability and willingness to juggle multiple assignments, adapt to fast-changing circumstances, and do what it takes to get the job done
  • Minimum of a BSEE or related degree (MSEE preferred)

In this position, your responsibilities will include working closely with BDTI senior staff to design, implement, optimize, and review of a variety of signal processing algorithms; these may be applications used in products or benchmarks used to compare and analyze DSP-oriented processors. The types of algorithms include:

  • Video coding algorithms (including proprietary and standards such as H.264)
  • Audio coding algorithms (including proprietary and standards such as MP3)
  • DSP kernel algorithms (FIR/IIR filters, FFTs, DCTs, etc.)
  • Communications receivers (such as OFDM)
  • A variety of other DSP-intensive algorithms

This position affords many unique opportunities, such as:

  • Becoming an expert on a wide range of signal-processing architectures, tools, and applications
  • Working on a variety of assignments—not just the same project month after month
  • Being exposed to a range of new technologies, often months or even years before they are publicly introduced
  • Influencing the direction of future products by providing product designers with feedback on their products' strengths and weaknesses and by helping technology users make good choices
  • Interacting with senior technical and business people (such as chief architects and marketing directors) at many of the most important technology companies worldwide
